Inspired by a nature trail on a mountain top in Thailand, the Lewisboro Land Trust embarked on an ambitious project creating an educational and inspirational Nature Trail in the heart of Lewisboro at Old Field Preserve. A generous grant was obtained and LLT Board members worked for a year on the content and visual displays.

The trail is an easy walk of about one mile and winds through five different habitats and seven reclaimed fields, illustrating the vast eco-diversity of OFP. Many community programs for both children and adults have been held here, providing a beautiful setting for environmental education.

Local John Jay teachers use the nature trail for field trips, as an illustration and addendum to their science curriculum. Plus, each educational sign is linked to our newly-created Online Field Guide, creating an opportunity for further learning for students and Lewisboro residents of all ages.

We also recommend the Online Field Guide for more self-guided exploration at other preserves.
